The Elsewhere Paintings

Applying the Greek definition of metaphor as “carrying from one place to another”, Nietzsche stated that metaphor was based on the “desire to be elsewhere.” These works are inspired by this viewpoint. They are full- blown fantasies of a dramatic place apart: atmospheric settings made vivid and expressive by a wealth of hermetic “signs and wonders.” However, a number of these paintings take on a darker aspect: the impression of Nature traumatized.
